For the Back to the Basics Blader Style profile for Ryuga, see Ryuga Kishatu (Back to the Basics).

There's only place for one left rotating Bey, and that's L-Drago.

—Ryuga, Beyblade Metal Fusion.

Ryūga Kishatu is a fictional character in the Metal Fight Beyblade metaseries created by Adachi Takafumi. Ryūga is one of the villain characters from the Metal Fight Beyblade anime, and manga series first appearing as the main antagonst of Beyblade Metal Fusion. As the series progresses, Ryuga largely remains independent of the main cast, although he often assists them against a common enemy.

In Beyblade: Metal Masters, Ryuga returns with his newly evolved Meteo L-Drago LW105 LF, which he evolved on his own through intense training and mastery of L-Drago's power.

In Beyblade Metal Fury, Ryuga inherits one of the Star Fragments, becoming one of the Legend Bladers and evolving his Bey into L-Drago Destructor F:S. He is also one of the Four Season Bladers, holding the power of the Summer Constellation. In the anime, he is joined by Kenta Yumiya, who attempts to convince him to join the main cast to defeat Nemesis.

In Beyblade: Shogun Steel, Ryuga does not appear in the anime, following the events of the Metal Fury anime, except for a brief cameo of his silhouette.

Ryuga's backstory and character remain mostly the same during Metal Fusion, although by Metal Masters the anime and manga diverge significantly. In the manga, Ryuga is an ancient king of the Dragon Clan, and hundreds of years old.

Appearance

Ryuga has tanish-peach skin with a golden dragon headwear. He has white hair with a red streak on it and he wears his coat as a cape. He wears a golden bey holder that is placed on his wrist for easy bey access to Lighting L-Drago. His eyes are normally ruthless and merciless and usually has an evil sneer on his face.

Originally, Ryuga wore a ripped T-shirt under a torn and battered cloak; when he changed, he began to wear a black and gold tank top underneath a white lab coat, which is hooked across the top of his chest so it stays on while he doesn't wear it with his arms in the sleeves.

He wears black pants that match his tank top and are tucked into his boots, and also has a belt that has hooks for his equipment, including his Beyblade Launcher. Ryuga also has a unique Beyblade Holster he wears on his arm in order to recharge the incredible power of L-Drago.

Personality

He is portrayed to be pure evil and shows no mercy to his allies or enemies, he loves to attack the beys of his enemies until the bey is crushed. He also enjoys terrorizing other beybladers and has a power-hungry personality. He despised losing a battle as well. He was cocky, thinking that he had the power to beat anyone else before him. He even enjoyed making Ryo suffer and teased Gingka about it which made him go beserk. He even saw Doji trying to give more power as weak and beat him with no remorse. Although in episode 51 it is revealed that Ryuga's behaviour was caused by L-Drago's possession over him.(Ryuga turns into a dragon). After getting free from L-Drago he loses the power-hungry part of his character. Although when he has Meteo L-Drago he has much more control over himself; this may be because he has full control over Meteo or that he is hiding its true power. Ryuga was now a stronger, prouder person who no longer stood as the face of evil. Instead, he decided to do simply whatever he liked instead of being on the wrong side of a conflict; he even decided to lecture Tsubasa in order to help him gain control of his dark power.

Even so, Ryuga still had plenty of rage on the inside, as he was not very fond of Hades Inc., or Julian Konzern's left-rotating Beyblade. In the end, Ryuga stood with Gingka against Hades Inc. However, he wasn't doing what was right; instead, he just did what he wanted to get back at them. During Metal Fury, Ryuga still follows the same ideals he had in Metal Masters, initially not joining Gingka and the other Legendary Bladers' fight against Nemesis in favor of his own personal gains, all while displaying the standoffish personality he has had ever since the start of the series. He even wants to take Nemisis power for himself to become the strongest. However, he begins to become more empathetic, allowing Kenta to follow and challenge him and even giving him his Star Fragment once the young Blader gains his respect. With L-Drago Destroy, he won all the time, until when he encountered Rago. Ryuga was knocked unconscious as he groaned. He had scratches all over his body, and L-Drago Destroy was destroyed. Eventually, Ryuga passed on his star fragment to Kenta, which helped Flame Sagittario C145 S evolve into Flash Sagittario. Considering how Ryuga treated Yu in Metal Fusion, ignoring him and basically leaving him to be destroyed by Reiji Mizuchi, one can see that this is a huge change in his character.

History

Ryuga was a former member of Dark Nebula and the ultimate rival of Gingka Hagane. He was defeated by Gingka only once; for all of the other battles against him, Ryuga came out on top, making him legendary. He was the strongest member in the Dark Nebula, being the one who owned Lightning L-Drago 100 HF. He was one of the Legend Bladers as well, specifically part of the Bladers of the Four Seasons as the Blader of Summer, where the power of Gaia was separated into the four seasons of Earth and the four Bladers, Gingka Hagane, Kyoya Tategami, Chris, and Ryuga. Ryuga represents the Season of Summer. He later gave his Star Fragment to his new close friend, Kenta Yumiya. Introduced as the main antagonist of Beyblade Metal Fusion, Ryuga was affiliated with the Dark Nebula Organization, who aided him in the theft of Lightning L-Drago 100HF from Koma Village. This incident served as Gingka's character motivation when Ryuga abandoned Ryusei Hagane in rubble after their first encounter. The power of the Forbidden Bey would start to influence Ryuga, making act sadsitic in battle and eventually consume him, draining his energy and turning Ryuga into a monster. But after being defeated by Gingka in battle Bladers, Ryuga would begin a journey of redemption and eventually tame Lightning L-Drago, becoming Meteo L-Drago LW105LF in the process. He mentored Tsubasa Otori during Metal Masters who was struggling with his dark power and even acted as a temporary reserve member during the Beyblade World Championships for Team Gan Gan Galaxy for their match against Jack of Team Star Breaker. He even helped Gingka stop the spiral core and save the world during the final fight with Hades inc.

During Beyblade Metal Fury, Ryuga was revealed as a Legendary Blader, specifically one of the Bladers of the Four Seasons representing summer. He finds a travelling companion in Kenta Yumiya, who would become Ryuga's closest and only friend. The two traveled for a few times, battling in tournaments and such as well as being present when Nemesis was revived. After giving his piece of the Star Fragment to Kenta after his loss to Rago, L-Drago disintegrated and the Dragon Emperor himself disappeared. It is unknown whether Ryuga and L-Drago survived after passing on the Star Fragment to Kenta and Sagittario (with the latter having evolved into Flash Sagittario 230WD). In Beyblade Shogun Steel, Sakyo Kurayami owns a Reverse-Rotation Bey, claiming that a Legendary Blader gave it to him, and his Bey looks like a dragon. Some think that it may had given to him by Ryuga, but it is still unknown whether he had survived or not.

Synopsis (Anime Version)

The Beginning (Metal Fusion)

Not much of Ryuga's past is known, except he once joined the Dark Nebula Organization and became Daidouji's right-hand man.

Ryuga and Doji once heard of a forbidden Beyblade called L-Drago, hidden in a temple at Koma Village and flew to Mount Hagane. There, after getting past the booby traps with Doji's help, Ryuga acquires L-Drago and uses it to defeat Ryusei Hagane and his Beyblade, Pegasus, with ease. Gingka yells at them to come back causing Doji to mock Gingka saying he should be glad L-Drago did not steal his power. However, as Ryuga fled the temple with Doji, L-Drago drained Ryuga of his power. Ever since then, Ryuga had to rest inside of a capsule until he regained his power.

Ryuuga in deep sleep

Ryūga sleeping in his capsule.

When Ryūga first appeared in the anime, he is seen inside a capsule in a coma in order to regain his power with Doji watching over him and hoping Gingka's data will help Ryuga crush Gingka.

In episode 12, Gingka and Pegasus' presence in the area allowed him to wake up due to being the opposite of Gingka. After Gingka wins against Daidouji, Ryuga arrives outside to greet his old foe. In episode 13, Gingka challenged him to a bey battle when he confronted him. They fought on the stadium often used by the Dark Nebula, Ginga hurries to the other side and they both launch their Blades. Immediately, it is clear that Lightning L-Drago became more powerful than Storm Pegasus 105 RF. Anytime the latter hits the opponent, it gets sent into the air. At the same time, Gingka is pushed back to the ground two or three times due to the purple shockwave that L-Drago emits every time there is an impact. Gingka does not give up though, because he is determined to avenge his father. Gingka's friends have trouble understanding what makes Ryuga's Beyblade so strong, so Doji explains that it is due to the fact that L-Drago is a left-spin blade. Benkei is confused by the concept of having two Beyblades with different spin rotations in the same battle, however. Gingka then uses L-drago's attacks to increase his spin speed. Kyoya notes it is the same as when he and Gingka battled for the second time. After one particular clash between the two Blades made at the perfect angle, Gingka uses his Pegasus StarBlast Attack to hopefully defeat L-Drago, but it joins Pegasus up in the sky and succeeds in rendering Gingka's Beyblade almost useless: Pegasus falls back to the stadium floor, as if it had little life left in it.

Everyone except Doji and Ryuga are shocked by the fact that Lightning L-Drago was able to defend and attack so well against Pegasus Star Blast Attack. Apparently, L-Drago seems to gain more energy from every collision, and of course from the few lightning bolts that sporadically cross the sky. sometime into the battle, Ryuga insults Ryusei Hagane saying how he was not strong enough, which quickly changes Gingka: an angry red and black aura appears around him, and his eyes' brown coloration turns into a bloody red glare. Gingka officially loses his mind then: he viciously and furiously fights against Ryuga and he only has his father's death in mind, but mostly the fact that he wants to make Ryuga pay dearly for his crime.

While Storm Pegasus attacks with as much fury as Gingka can fuel himself, L-Drago still holds its ground slightly. Kenta starts crying at the sight of his friends near insane anger: a few days ago, Gingka had been the one to prone the Beyblade game for mere fun, not really for competition, and even less for personal gain. Seeing him so demented, so angry and dead-set on dealing with Ryuga once and for all that it pains him. He tries to call him back to reality, but Gingka remains in his world where he only knows of Ryo's death by Ryuga, and the latter standing right in front of him, at the other side of the stadium, with the Beyblade that destroyed his life spinning between them along with Storm Pegasus.

The negative energy casted from Gingka allowed Ryuga to replenish L-Drago's energy near-instantly; with his energy more than 100%, Ryuga finishes toying with Pegasis and makes a special move called Dragon Emperor Soaring Bite Strike where three Emperor Dragons (instead of only one, like before) cruelly assault Storm Pegasus. Once everything ends and that the blinding light from the attack vanished, Storm Pegasus is incrusted into the crushed part of the stadium floor. Shocked beyond belief that he could lose and not be able to avenge his father's death, Gingka falls to his hands and knees while Ryuga taunts Gingka saying how the sprit of a blader is it's favorite meal. Ryuga soon leaves, telling Doji that they have to prepare for Battle Bladers and Doji hurriedly agrees leaving Gingka in shock that he lost to Ryuga and Pegasus in scratches. In episode 15, he was shown training against Dark Nebula bladers, who owned all the different types of Beyblades, Attack, Defense, Stamina, and Balance. Ryuga says that it isn't enough and uses L-Drago power to blow away all the Dark Nebula Bladers. Ryuga then causes a huge explosion with L-Drago laughing at the power it has. Doji asks Ryuga how strong he plans to become only for the young Blader to smirk.

One day Doji takes Ryuga to meet a powerful, young blader named Yu Tendo in the desert. After he beats Yu the kid finds Ryuga to be super cool and gets invited to join the Dark Nebula which the kid accepts. Yu wins the survival battle and creates a tournament called Battle Bladders. Ryuga and the Dark Nebula arrive to the island where he confronts Gingka to let him know that the WBBA's Battle Bladers tournament is where Gingka will be able to receive his rematch if he makes it far enough to the finals. Doji also says that when Ryuga wins the tournament he will be the King of all Bladers. Gingka loads Pegasus and challenges Ryuga to a rematch for his first defeat at the hands of L-Drago. The two bladers fight an intense battle with the energy blowing Doji and Yu into the Helicopter. However Ryuga tells L-Drago to retreat knowing he will win so he tells Gingka that during Battle Bladers they will end their rivalry once and for all. Gingka accepts and vows to defeat Ryuga at Battle Bladers. On the ride back to Dark Nebula's base, Ryuga laughs at the power Gingka has saying that their next battle should be more interesting.

Ryuga starts to prepare L-Drago for it by smashing some rocks using all of L-Drago's power saying he needs more power. Following this he laughs at the power L-Drago has feeling he can't be beaten. After Gingka beats Teru Saotome, Ryuga is shown at the Dark Nebula headquarters saying he understands Gingka's drive to win. He then launches L-Drago saying to himself Gingka needs to improve his moves to be a fitting opponent and launches L-Drago in the sky laughing at his power. He later bords a hellicoper with Yu Tendo and Tsubasa Otori to go to a battle royal in the mountains that Benkei Hanawa also takes part in. When Blader DJ asks who will battle Yu says that Ryuga is more than worthy to compete. Ryuga uses L-Drago and overwhelm Dark Bull H145 SD and survive Red Horn Uppercut. L-Drago's power becomes to much for the bladers causing Ryuga to win the one-hundred-way battle. Ryuga laughs at his victory while calling Benkei and the others ammutiyres while Tsubassa looks concerned at the power L-drago has. Blader Dj gives the audience information on Ryuga and how he is winning various challenge matches after having only appeared in the survival battle award ceromaony. After beating bladers in a challenge matches he ambushes Tobio Oike and Ryutaro Fukami right before their battle. He challenges both of them at the same time and easily wins due to L-drago's left rotation. He then he invites them to join the Dark Nebula and they accept. When the Dark Nebula finds out that Tsubasa Otori is a traitor, he battles him after Tsubassa beats all the lower class bladers. During the fight he taunts Tsubassa about not having enough power to beat him. He is about to defeat Tsubasa with Dragon Emperor Soaring Bite Strike, but Phoenix interferes and saves Tsubasa. This angers Ryuga.

The tournament arrives in no time, Ryuga accompanying Doji in most cases. His first match was with Hikaru, whom he easily dominated, infuriating the WBBA Spy, Tsubasa Otori. Later he is seen defeating the Dark Nebula bladers who failed in the first round and leaves Yu to suffer by Reiji. In the second round Ryuga battles Tubassa next and though Tsubassa gives Ryuga a hard time even beating his Dark move. The fight ends with the same outcome after transferring Ryuga's own Negative energy onto Tsubasa, cursing him with the Dark Power (though this would not be known until Metal Masters)

With such a close match with Tsubasa, Doji feels concerned that Ryuga may not be able to defeat Gingka. So, he kidnaps Yu and has Kenta and Hyoma try to give their power to Ryuga while Ryuga watches the semifinal battle between Gingka and Rejji which Rejji loses, but Doji gets beaten by Phoneix. So as a compromise after finding out why Doji did all this while assuming he thinks L-drago is weak, he beats Doji in battle and drains the negative energy from Doji's body instead, supposedly killing him. Daidouji falls to the ground and Ryuga laughs saying that once he gets the energy from Rock Leone 145 WB L-Drago will be strong enough to beat Gingka.

In the semi-finals, he battles Kyoya Tategami and starts off by telling Kyoya that there is no chance that he will win. Kyoya tells him that he will defeat him quickly so he can fight and defeat Gingka. However, Ryuga uses L-Drago's power to taunt Kyoya by crumbling the stadium to pieces. They get ready their Beylaunchers and launch. Kyoya's Rock Leone 145 WB fights fiercely against Ryuga's Lightning L-Drago 100 HF. Ryuga uses a Dark Move Dragon Emperor Soaring Bite Strike, thinking he will defeat Kyoya in one shot. He's wrong as Rock Leone dodges it and uses a special move. Madoka learns that Kyoya is only slowing down L-Drago and if it stops, Kyoya could lose. Gingka cheers Kyoya on regardless. In spite of Ryuga attempting to defeat Kyoya easily, Kyoya stands up and fights back. Ryuga is surprised at this and keeps trying to defeat him. Leone jumps onto L-Drago as the beast's fight. Kyoya tells Ryuga he should fight the right way instead of using the power L-Drago gets when it defeats an opponent. Ryuga takes up Kyoya's challenge and accepts but tells him that he will regret it. The Bey's fight by using their own power and with each hit of the Bey, an explosion emerges. Madoka is worried as if Kyoya keeps fighting like this, Kyoya could possibly lose his energy. The battle is so fierce L-Drago seems not to have an effect on Leone. Kyoya then attempts to surprise-attack Ryuga and more explosions occurs. Ryuga turns insane that nothing is happening and tries to deliver a direct hit at Leone. Madoka tells Gingka that Leone and L-Drago are reaching the end of their Stamina. Kyoya tries to finish L-Drago but suddenly, the beast of L-Drago, Dragon Emperor comes out of the Bey and faces Ryuga. It transfers it's power into Ryuga and with this a huge explosion occurs. Ryuga turns insane and looks like a savage beast and with this L-Drago fights back against Leone. Kyoya holds nothing back in order to defeat L-Drago. In one final clash, the Beys heavily destroy the Battle Bladers stadium. Kyoya is determined to finish it once and for all as he and Ryuga get ready for one final clash to determine the winner. With this crash, both Kyoya and Ryuga unleash new special moves: King Lion Furious Blast Shot and Dragon Emperor Soaring Destruction. After the fierce clash and after being pushed into a conner by Kyoya taunting him about stealing power he eventually wins after an intense fight despite Kyoya's determination to beat Ryuga and win against Gingka.

With his energy replenished he mocks Gingka over letting his friends be beaten and brutally beats Benkei Hanawa in battle, and then he continues to his final match with Gingka Hagane. Ryuga's negative energy overflows as L-Drago is able to possess Ryuga's body during the battle. Gingka's Pegasus sacrificed itself to destroy its dark counterpart, defeating Ryuga and destroying the Dark Power of the evil Bey. Ryuga then leaves to do some training.

Ryuga saved by Ginga

After his final match with Gingka in battle Bladers, Ryuga went into rigorous training with Lightning L-Drago to rid himself of the dark Bey's control. He eventually figured out that L-Drago's evil was, in reality, created by its past owners. These owners were people filled with greed, malice, and hunger for nothing but power. Throughout time, these negative traits were formed into the dark power of L-Drago. Ryuga correctly deduced that because the dark power was created by humans such as himself, he should be able to overcome it. Through his training, he eventually became one with the Dark Power and both he and L-Drago were reborn.

Flaming Spirit (Metal Masters)

Ryuga is convinced to return to the scene when he is visited by Hyoma and notified of Gingka's struggle to control the strength of Galaxy Pegasus. Ryuga finds out on his journey that his former Dark Power has infected Tsubasa, and interrupts Tsubasa's match with Sophie and Wales to reveal his new, stronger powers.

Ryuga also finds out about the second Left-Rotating Beyblade, which was Julian Konzern's Gravity Destroyer AD145 WD. Irritated, Ryuga proclaims that he has the strongest and then proceeds to explain his rebirth to Tsubasa. Having enough of the European Team, he drags Tsubasa back to his teammates and confronts Gingka.

Ryuga challenges Gingka to a rematch since their last battle and they battle on the outskirts of town, forcing him to leave his team as they continue with their journey through the World Championships. Ryuga easily overwhelms Gingka; while declaring that Meteo L-Drago is the strongest left-rotation Bey in the world, he is disappointed that Gingka has yet to master Galaxy Pegasus' power. As Gingka's match with Julian draws near, Ryuga calls back his L-Drago and commands Gingka to leave, but not before telling him that he needs to master Pegasus' power if he wants to defeat a left-rotating Beyblade, as he disappears. Eventually, Gingka beats Juilan thanks to Ryugas advice.

After Gang Gang Galaxy beat Team Garcia, Ryuga followed Team GanGan Galaxy into the United States to further study Tsubasa and Gingka's progress. During his travels however, he was threatened by several hooded Beybladers. Ryuga used his hand to spin his Bey and easily defeated the Bladers who claimed to be from HD Academy. Impressed by Ryuga's skills, a mysterious hooded man then confronts him.

This man is revealed to be Jack of Team Star Breaker (the US team), who leads Ryuga to HD Academy for "testing", which was viewing L-Drago's left spin capabilities. Even though he participated, Ryuga only desired to face Jack, interested through all his talk, but Jack tells him that his bey is not completed yet. As a compromise, Jack offers Ryuga a match with Zeo Abyss as the next best thing.

Ryuga decides to battle Zeo, but becomes unimpressed by his skills. Even though Zeo tries his hardest, Ryuga easily defeats him and prepares to leave. He is stopped by Dr. Ziggurat, who tells Ryuga to cooperate with the academy so they could learn more about L-Drago and help finalize the Arrangement System.

In order to win Ryuga's trust, Dr. Ziggurat reveals that he was working with the Dark Nebula and originally used Ryuga as a test subject. However, in that one final offer to join the Academy, Ryuga becomes infuriated by Ziggurat's comment about his past misdeeds and responds by fiercely blowing a hole in the building with L-Drago, leaving in the wake of his destruction.

Ryuga is later tracked down by Zeo and several HD Academy Bladers who want to apprehend him and force him to be tested by the Arrangement. Ryuga prepares to fend him off until they are interrupted by the arrival of Gingka and his teammate Masamune Kadoya. Masamune tries to help Zeo, but is stopped by Gingka, having realized that Ryuga is actually in the right; he then helps Masamune stop Zeo. Ryuga meanwhile beats serval HD bladers and then decides to leave the scene after warning Gingka to watch out for the US Team, already knowing that they're up to something.

During the World Championships, Gan Gan Galaxy was two members short, mainly due to Yu and Tsubasa's injuries sustained from the mysterious Damian Hart. Following Masamune's loss to Zeo, Gingka was prepared to step up in the second match to face Jack, hoping to win two battles in a row by himself.

However, Ryuga was ready to gain payback against Hades Inc., so he chooses to interrupt the tournament by stepping up as Gan Gan Galaxy's replacement member. Masamune worries about trusting Ryuga, but Gingka reassures him that they've made the right choice, knowing that Ryuga is doing this for his own goals.

Because Ryuga is not of age and had yet to participate in the tournament, he is therefore eligible to step up and is thus given the green light to face Jack. Their match begins as Jack seems to already know what Ryuga is capable of. The latter is not moved by this, as he knows he has much in store for the artistic Blader.

Jack expresses his uncanny taste for art as he appears to unleash his abilities upon Ryuga. Jack also claims that Ryuga is too much of a "brute" to understand his beauty, but Ryuga remains calm as he waits out Jack's attacks one after another. Everyone begins to fear Ryuga's self-destruction, but after Jack releases all of his powers, Ryuga reveals that he was merely testing him to measure his strength and kicks his L-Drago into top gear. Ryuga releases his counterattack against Jack, who he feels is no match for himself. Though Jack becomes furious and fights back with the rest of his might, Ryuga stays confident that he cannot lose to someone who uses "pet food" to get stronger rather than true training.

Using his Blader's Spirit, Ryuga overcomes the odds and makes Jack into his own work of art, defeating him with the Dragon Emperor - Supreme Flight. After obtaining Team Gan Gan Galaxy's first victory for them and showing Hades Inc to not mess with him, Ryuga leaves without a word. He then watches as Gingka beats Damain thus winning the championships. He seemed impressed but does not join the ceremony for Gang Gang Galaxy.

Ryuga remains in America long enough to hear Ziggurat's announcement on the Spiral Force; interested, Ryuga moves in to stop him. Ryuga does not move quickly enough as he discovers the hard way that Hades City has already taken flight above the ocean, but this does not stop Ryuga who uses his L-Drago to infiltrate it saying that Zirguart is from a long line of confused humans and vows to stop him. Once inside he meets with Gingka at the very core of the weapon, he uses his L-Drago to damage it while Gingka uses his Pegasus to transfer the energy lost into space, stopping the core and saving the world together. Afterwords, he watches as the city sinks in the ocean and leaves America feeling satisfed with Zigurarts death.

Beyblade Metal Fury

Ryuga is first seen approaching two guards in Zarkan Island. While the guards would not let him in, Ryuga had other reasons. He used the power of Meteo L-Drago to attack the guards ferociously. However, a light beam from the Star Fragment hit Meteo L-Drago, causing it to evolve into L-Drago Destroy F:S. The villagers were frightened of L-Drago's amazing power and thus banished Beyblades from their entire village.

During Kyoya Tategami and Benkei Hanawa's travels to the Zarkan Island volcano, they were confronted by none other than Ryuga himself. Ryuga challenged Kyoya and pinned the Legend Bey against a Legend Bey. Kyoya tries his best to push L-Drago into the volcano with his Fang Leone 130W2D but fails and Ryuga easily overwhelms Kyoya saying he has not mastered his Beyblade.

After Kyoya's loss to Ryuga, Gingka battles him using Cosmic Pegasus F:D which he utilizes its new attack power and its Final Drive mode. But due to L-Drago's new mode change, Gingka is quickly defeated and knocked out. Ryuga then battles Yuki Mizusawa who shows off his skills to Ryuga saying he wont lose. Ryuga defeats Yuki after Yuki shows off his true power as a Legendary Blader. After he claims three wins in a row, Ryuga leaves in order to search for the Legendary Bladers and become the strongest blader in the world instead of joining Gingka's gang.

Afterwards he participated in a bey tournament and beats every blader including King Indess. After winning Ryuga was then confronted by Kenta Yumiya who told Ryuga that he is a Legendary Blader and challenged him to a battle. Ryuga easily defeated him, and seeing that Kenta was faking it, he left. Kenta asked him to help Gingka and the others, but Ryuga refused. However, Kenta followed him, and said that until he helps Gingka, he will keep following Ryuga. When Kenta was starving, he tried to catch a fish, but failed. To Kenta's surprise, Ryuga willingly gave him some food, but then told him to leave after eating. Kenta begins to cry loudly and begged him to help Gingka and the others. When Ryuga asked why he is doing this, Kenta said that it is the only way he can help them: to convince Ryuga to help them. Interested by this proposition, he then told Kenta to keep challenging him, and see if the latter can really make him serious.

Ryuga later participated in a "The Tower of Babel" Beyblade Tournament near the Mohenjo-Daro ruins. He randomly appeared in order to test his strength against several Beybladers at once. He was first confronted by Kenta, who he ignored.

Ryuga defeated several Bladers with ease until he reached the top of the tower when he was soon followed by the other Finalist, Tsubasa Otori. The two battled it out as Tsubasa tried his hardest to make Ryuga fight with all his power but failed. After Tsubasa uses his special move, Ryuga uses his Special Move, "Dragon Emperor Life Destructor", and surprisingly easily overwhelms Tsubasa's strongest special move, "Shining Tornado Buster". Thus wining the tournament. After this, Ryuga was given the winning prize, but he crushes it with his foot and leaves unsatisfied.

Ryuga and Kenta arrive at the Beystar Island tournament where they are met by several other Beybladers including Gingka. Ryuga and Kenta separate and Ryuga runs into his first "challenge" known as the Blader, King. Ryuga and King battle too ferociously, revealing that King is able to combat Ryuga on equal ground after revealing his Legend powers. Ryuga only takes the win after using a glimpse of his full power in his special move.

He later interrupts the battle at the end of the tournament by trying to steal Chris,s Star Fragments power which he fails to do.

When Nemesis awakened, Ryuga's L-Drago began glowing. Ryuga claims to feel the power of Nemesis calling to him, and departs. When Kenta realized what he was doing, he tried to stop Ryuga, and reminded him that he might fail like the time with Lightning L-Drago. Ryuga throws him away, so Kenta challenges Ryuga, Ryuga easily defeats Kenta without breaking a sweat but Kenta's newfound durability allows him to stand up and challenge Ryuga once more.

Ryuga accepts and battles Kenta to the point where he is surprised by Kenta's Diving Claw but counters with his own special move. Ryuga wins but finds that his L-Drago's facebolt was cracked revealing that Kenta was strong enough to damage L-Drago. Ryuga leaves Kenta but is surely followed by him soon after.

Confronting the Nemesis (Metal Fury)

Ryuga appears again, interrupting a battle between Johannes, Bao and the Beylin Fist versus Zeo, Toby and Benkei by using his L-Drago to clear a straight path into the ruins. He enters the ruins, and barges into the middle of Gingka's confrontation with Rago, Pluto, and Doji. While Gingka, Chris and Kyoya battle Rago, Ryuga enters the match and unwillingly creates Zeus' Barrier, which stops Rago in his tracks. Doji, an old enemy of Ryuga's, baits him into attacking Rago, destroying the barrier. The ruins collapsed seemingly trapping Ryuga inside.

Once free he vows to get revenge on Doji and defeat Nemesis.

Ryuga reappeared at Nemesis' hideout and challenged Rago to a battle, At first Ryuga puts Rago on the defensive in their battle, but then Nemesis started to retaliate. Despite Doji's taunts, Ryuga continued to battle Rago but soon enough, L-Drago was pushed to its limit, forcing Ryuga to use all of his energy, as well as his unwavering Blader's Spirit.

Ryuga summoned a Special Move that he put his heart and soul into. However, Ryuga's attempt was in vain as Rago overpowers him with his own Special Move that obliterated Ryuga's hopes of winning, dealing Ryuga a crushing defeat, and leaving Gingka and the others stunned.

Ryuga wakes during Kenta's against battle Rago and Nemesis. When Ryuga woke up, he told Kenta that there was a time when he had faced his challenge seriously.

Ryuga then gives his Legend Blader power to Kenta by launching L-Drago and circling Sagittario. This helped Flame Sagittario evolve into Flash Sagittario, thus making him one of the Legendary Bladers. After Ryuga gave up his powers, he and L-Drago disintegrate due to the fact that the star fragment was the only thing preventing this from happening earlier. After Nemesis and Rago are defeated, Gingka thanks Ryuga for all of his help and pays him respects. Ryuga watches over them all from above.

Beyblade Shogun Steel

While Ryuga did not make any physical appearances in Shogun Steel, he did make a few cameo appearances; he was either a silhouette or mentioned in a conversation. Ryuga is also thought to be the one who gave his successor, Sakyo Kurayami, the Bey Ronin Dragoon LW160BSF. He also appeared in a flashback where he was battling against Rago in Metal Fury as Daidouji explained how he surved. Doji also tells Gingka following his capture that he gave up his body to get revenge on Ryuga.

In the ending of Shogun Steel's Japanese version, at the last moment during a battle with Zero Kurogane and Kira Hayama, a cloud that takes the shape of L-Drago can be seen, possibly hinting that Ryuga may return in any sequel to the series.

Beybattles

Due to only losing two official battles and having seven battles without an outcome, Ryuga is considered the strongest Blader throughout the entire Metal Saga, beating even Gingka Hagane twice, who is mainly called "the world's number-one Blader". His first loss came in the final round of the Battle Bladers tournament against Gingka and his second loss was due to Rago gaining some of L-Drago's power.

Beyblades

  • L-Drago 105F: Ryuga's first beyblade in the manga and in the anime.
  • Lightning L-Drago 100HF: Ryuga's second beyblade after L Drago 105F "evolves" during the battle with Benkei near the end of Chapter 9 in the manga, and Ryuga's current blade in the anime. Lightning L Drago is an Attack type beyblade with a left spin. L-Drago is a forbidden beyblade whose seal was broken by the Dark Nebula organization it was defeated when Storm Pegasus sacrificed itself to defeat it (anime).
  • Meteo L-Drago LW105LF: Ryuga's second beyblade in the anime and third in the manga. He got this beyblade when he went into a cave and launched "L-Drago" into a lava blast and when it came out, it was "Meteo L-Drago" Sometimes, when he launches Meteo L-drago, he doesn't use his launcher due to the ability of Meteo L-Drago to steal power from the opponent's bey.
  • L-Drago Destroy F:S: Ryuga's fourth/third bey in the anime. After the fragment of the star came to earth and searched for the legandary bladers, Ryuga was one of the bladers whose beys got struck by the star and changed into "L-Drago Destroy" just like Gingka's "Big Bang Pegasus".It has two modes, one of which is attack and the other is absorb. He used this bey to defeat Kyoya, Gingka and Yuki in episode 107. It was destroyed in Ryuga's battle with Rago.

Relationships

Gingka Hagane

Being one of Gingka's ultimate rivals; the other being Kyoya, Gingka and Ryuga have been rivals from the start. At first, Gingka has shown a deep hatred to Ryuga for stealing the Forbidden Bey, Lightning L-Drago from his village that was in a volcano and thought him responsible for trapping his father during Dark Nebula's raid at Koma Village. Although defeating Gingka on numerous times, Gingka finally defeated him and the power of L-Drago that was controlling him was let out, leaving Ryuga to be. Although Gingka and Ryuga do not completely hate each other, they are not friends but rivals. Sometimes, Ryuga can be an ally to Gingka whereas in Metal Fusion his ultimate goal was to absorb all of Gingka's and Pegasus' power, but overall, he is Gingka's ultimate rival

Kenta Yumiya

Although Ryuga and Kenta have not made much, if not any interaction in Metal Fusion and Metal Masters, where Ryuga never even notices Kenta, they have made some sort of relationship in Metal Fury. As Kenta went following Ryuga in order to convince Ryuga to help Gingka to find the rest of the Legendary Bladers, traveling from mountains to jungles. Kenta would not give up and soon enough, finally convinced him. Although Kenta is somewhat scared of Ryuga's actions, such as his "sixth-sense" they have developed a friendship. In episode 134, Ryuga says to Kenta that he had never taken Kenta seriously.

Kenta cared about Ryuga as he helped Ryuga to not give into Nemesis' dark power and was concerned for him when he was trapped in the temple's rubble of Diablo Nemesis' "Armageddon" Special Spin Move. He was also worried for Ryuga during his rematch with Rago, and was the first to run inside when he saw Nemesis battling L-Drago. He then saw Ryuga being smashed backwards from Armageddon. He ran to Ryuga only to find him unconcious and severely injured, and was shocked by the fact that he was dangerously close to death.

Ryuga trusted Kenta so much that he gave him his Legend Blader power to defeat Nemesis, causing Flame Sagittario to evolve into Flash Sagittario.

Daidouji

Doji and Ryuga have been partners ever since they were in the Dark Nebula organization. They worked hand-in-hand and would do anything to search for Forbidden Bey, Gingka Hagane, and strong Bladers so Ryuga could defeat them and absorb their energy. Despite the fact that Doji did everything for Ryuga,he would soon steal Doji's energy through L-Drago in the semi-finals of Battle Bladers, because Ryuga thought that Doji kept giving him strong Bladers for Ryuga to get the energy as Doji thought he wasn't strong enough. Doji claimed he didn't but Ryuga ignored this and took his energy without mercy, destroying Dark Wolf in the process and ending their relationship forever.

After Doji's return in Metal Fury, Ryuga called him an evil person, probably out of anger at the nightmare he had been put through. Doji taunted and made fun of Ryuga about how he was used as a mere tool to help Nemesis take over the world. At first Ryuga told Doji not to think he can provoke him, but then got provoked anyway.

Kyoya Tategami

Due to the two being Gingka's rivals they both share hatred for each other. Kyoya also harbors Jealuosy over the fact that Ryuga beat Gingka when he couldn't, while Ryuga thinks Kyoya is strong, but inferior compared to Gingka. The two battled twice in the saga with Ryuga winning each time. They also share an arrgont personality and were both used by Doji.

Quotes

  • (Ryuga's first dialogue in the series) "Heee! Well, long time no see, Gingka Hagane!"
  • "I'll say it a thousand times, your father couldn't cut it! If the father isn't tough enough, what do you think the son will be like? The same, so grovel at my feet like your father did!" (Ryuga to Gingka) (episode 13 "Metal Fusion")
  • "However! I can't remember anyone taking so many of my direct hits without completely collapsing. I'll give you credit for that!"
  • "You're not an eagle. You're a...CHICKEN!!!!!" (Ryuga to Tsubasa)
  • "You call that children's magic show the Dark Power? Don't make me laugh!"
  • "That being said, I have gotten my hands on a new power. One that makes the old Dark Force look like a toddler throwing a tantrum!"
  • "Be careful what you poke with a stick, it just might bite you!" (Beyblade Metal Masters Episode 88)
  • "Don't get all misty on me. I just came to settle the score with a ghost from my past."
  • "I alone managed to beat back the Dark Power, and succeeded in drawing out L-Drago's ultimate ability, and I harness the true power that I gain by putting my very life on the line to be the best I can be in my battles!"
  • "In the end, you're nothing but a caged bird. Thinking you've become stronger from the pet food you were given and believing you could defeat the Dragon Emperor. It's just hilarious!" (Ryuga to Jack)
  • "Playtime's Over!!"
  • "The more angrier you get the more power L-Drago will gain!"
  • "Destruction! Destruction!"
  • (To Gingka) "If you lose to that fake one(refering to Damian), I will never forgive you."
  • "I am the strongest blader in the world!"(to Gingka)
  • " I will... not lose! Even if my opponent is a God, I will defeat anyone who stands in my way! Do you hear? My name is Ryuga. I reign over the world as the strongest, the Dragon Emperor himself!"
  • "There's only place for one left rotating Bey, and that's L-Drago."
  • "It was slight, but for a brief shining moment, I was serious. Kenta, take it..."

Trivia

  • His name might be based off of Kamen Rider Ryuga from Kamen Rider Ryuki.
  • Ryūga literally means "dragon's fang".
  • Ryuga in the Metal Fight Beyblade DS Game actually happens to fight other bladers and not Gingka. In the story mode he even accidentally saves some bladers.
  • In the Beyblade Metal Fusion DS game, all other characters have no one following them, but Daidouji constantly follows Ryuga and gives him secret info on Van and other threats.
  • He looks very similar to Ren's Gundalian form in Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders.
  • He has the same seiyu to Lambo (Future) form in Reborn!
  • Ryuga and Ryuto both have spiky white hair with a red streak going down one side. However, while Ryuga's red streak is on the left side of his hair, Ryuto's is on the right. Both of their beyblades are a dragon species.
  • It is also shown in the show that Ryuga has exceptional eyesight as he was able to watch the final battle of the World Championships on top of a building far away from the stadium.
  • The reason Ryuto refers to Ryuga as "Brother" is because they are from the same dragon clan.
  • He is one of the few characters to have his Bey's Spirit change appearance, others being Reiji Mizuchi and Chao Xin, after customizing his Beyblade into Poison Virgo.
  • His Shogun Steel counterpart is Sakyo Kurayami, who can also be considered his spiritual successor.
  • Ryuga is one of the only few characters whose outfit didn't change throughout the series.
  • Similar to Ryuga, many members of the Dark Nebula have a streak of hair a different color than the rest of their hair which is a common trait in the Dark Nebula.
  • Ryuga the Dark Nebula Bladers and Daidouji are the only characters from Metal Fusion who didn't show up in the final picture of Blader's Spirit.
  • Meteo L-Drago LW105 LF is one of the only Beys in the anime and the only L-Drago Bey that has not lost any battles as Lightning L-Drago 100 HF lost to Storm Pegasus 105 RF and L-Drago Destructor F:S lost to Diablo Nemesis X:D. In fact, Ryuga was undefeated during Metal Masters.
  • It is possible that Ryuga has the ability of teleportation. This is shown when he somehow managed to get to the Spiral Core and the lost kingdom of Hades, seemingly without any means of transport. Also, in Metal Fury, he seems to appear and disappear by using bolts of red lightning.
  • Ryuga is one of only two Bladers to have a Dark Move instead of a Special Move. The other one is Reiji thought Ryuga stopped using Dark moves after Metal Fusion.
  • Ryuga shares many similarities with Lui Shirosagi from the Burst Series:
    • Both of their Beys are Attack Type, Left-Spin, and based on dragons.
    • Both have a bad temper and have fierce rivalries with the main protagonist: Lui with Valt and Ryuga with Gingka, respectively.
    • Ryuga and Lui both gain character development as the season progresses.
  • It is possible that Ryuga has the ability of teleportation. This is shown when he somehow managed to get to the Spiral Core and the lost kingdom of Hades, seemingly without any means of transport. Also, in Metal Fury, he seems to appear and disappear by using bolts of red lightning.
    • This could also explain how Ryuga could still be alive and the way he disappeared made it look like he died. Also, his presumed passing was much like Storm Pegasus' in Metal Fusion, to which Ryo told Gingka, "Once it has rested its wings somewhere, there is a good chance that it'll regain its strength and return." This shows that Ryuga will (or at least eventually) return as well.
  • In complete Beyblade Metal Fury, Ryuga used Final Survive of the L Drago Destructor F:S only 2 times, 1st was when he was battling against Gingka in episode 5 "Awaken Anubius" and 2nd was when he was battling 2nd time against Kenta Yumiya in episode 32 part 2 "God of Distruction revival" in any other battle with his L Drago Destructor he always finish it's battle before entering in Final Survive Mode.
  • Despite Kenta's efforts, Ryuga never went over to help Gingka, merely trying to take every single star fragment to make L-Drago "The True Dragon Emperor".
  • In complete Beyblade Metal Fury, Ryuga used Final Survive of the L Drago Destructor F:S only 2 times, 1st was when he was battling against Gingka Hagane in episode 5 "Awaken Anubius" and 2nd was when he was battling 2nd time against Kenta Yumiya in episode 32 part 2 "God of Distruction revival" in any other battle with his L Drago Destructor he always finish it's battle before entering in Final Survive Mode.
  • Kenta once dreamed of Ryuga joining Gingka's gang, in the dream, he was seen smiling for the first time and had a friendly personality which made him to be seen in a new light.
  • The only times when he actually lost his temper was when someone actually beat him, or reminded of the time when he had Lightning L-Drago.
  • The capsule Ryuga is in while in the Dark Nebula Castle could be seen as a type of Arrangement System.
  • Aguma can be seen as the counterpart of him as they have several similarities:
    • Both have a bit similar hair style.
    • Sometimes, both are very mean and impolite.
    • It takes a lot of time to convince them to join the good side.
    • Both have capes, although the style and color are different.
    • Both are very powerful.
    • They have similar style of eyebrow, although Aguma's is more bushy.
    • They both share a dark attitude.
  • Ryuga can be also seen as the Brooklyn of the Metal Saga.
  • There's a theory, that Ryuga ins't dead, it proves that Sakyo has inherited the Dragoon from a legendary Blader as well as Zyro Kurogane.
  • There are several hints in Beyblade: Shogun Steel that Ryuga may still be alive in the anime, because Sakyo claims he inherited Ronin Dragoon LW160BSF from a Legendary Blader. This claim could also suggest that he had learned how to create Beyblades, and made Dragoon using his own L-Drago as a basis.
    • There has been no physical appearance by Ryuga though in the season.
  • Doji's comeback made a huge impact on Ryuga.
  • It is possible that Ryuga owned a generic Beyblade before he obtained Lightning L-Drago.
  • It is speculated that Ryuga was dead in the final episode of Beyblade: Metal Fury, because his spirit is shown in the sky when Gingka was thanking him for helping the defeat of Nemesis but it never was really confirmed. It also should be noted that Ryuga never died in the Manga. This belief is, however, contested by Sakyo Kurayami in Beyblade: Shogun Steel by him saying he inherited his Ronin Dragoon LW160BSF from a Legendary Blader, which could have only been him. This could mean that Ryuga survived his battle with Rago and simply disappeared of circulation.
  • Ryuga and Rejji are the only bladers that doesn't appear in the opening ceromancy for Battle Bladers.
  • The only times when he actually lost his temper was when someone actually beat him or reminded of the time when he had Lightning L-Drago.
  • Ryuga has battled almost every member of Gingka's gang with expections like Hyoma and Masamune Kadoya.
  • Benkei, Teru and Ryuga are the only bladers that did have anything bad happen to him after losing a match in Battle Bladers.
